View Full Version : Cannot share e-mail folders between XP user accounts

I have Windows XP Home Edition installed with Outlook
Express 6. I have set up 5 user accounts (1 for each of
the family). When each user account downloads e-mail,
all the e-mails are saved to that account. Hence, any e-
mail not for the account owner is 'lost' to the
addressee. How do I configure Windows XP/Outlook
Express/Freeserve to use a common set of Outlokk folders
for all XP user accounts?

JJ,

You can change where the email folder by going into
Tools...Options...Maitenance...Store Folder.

Hi JJ,

It's easy enough to set up, but carries with it a danger.

Log on as any user, open Outlook Express. Click =
tools/options/maintenance tab, click on the store folder button. Move it =
to a shared location accessible by all users (right now it is under =
their local profile). "Ok" your way out and close Outlook Express. =
Logoff and repeat the steps for each user, this time selecting the =
location selected/created by the first user.

*IMPORTANT* Do NOT use fast user switching with Outlook Express left =
open. You (and all other users) MUST remember to close it before =
switching. If any user fails to do this, the mail store may be corrupted =
beyond repair, and all saved messages will be lost.

When you re-open OE it will offer to move the folders. Answer "No" because
this will overwrite the folders that are there. Instead use File | Import |
Messages tom import from the store directory that OE was using before.
