No volume control icon on the taskbar (can't ever remember seeing one
anyway).
Normal procedure is control panel/sounds and audio/device/volume and
tick place vol icon on taskbar.
Problem ...... no vol control loaded so use add/remove progs ... ok so
far...... BUT... can't find any mention of volume in add remove progs
nor on XP disk.
Question .... where is it please ?????

Regards

Rick

It is still there, it just has a different looking graphic for the icon. Go
to Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, you can still click on showing
or not showing in your taskbar. It is probably there and just hiding on you.
Click on the arrow to the left of the clock and it will bring up the items
that aren't used much. If you want those items to show all the time just
"right click" on your mouse on an empty area in the taskbar. It will give
you the option of locking or unlocking the taskbar in place.

Hi Val
Clicking on place volume icon in the task bar comes up with message;
Windows cannot display vol control on task bar because vol control prog
has not been installed. To install it use Add/Remove progs in control
panel.
No arrow to left of clock as all icons are present on the task bar.
So, back to the start, where is the damned vol control prog on the xp
disk???

A file is likely corrupted. See
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=319095 for instructions on copying
the correct file from your XP CD.

Thanks very much for that link. Seems to refer to my prob exactly but I
get the following error when following the instructions;

e:
cd i386
expand sndvol32.ex_c:\windows\system32\sndvol32.exe

Message: No destination specified for expand
sndvol32.ex_c:\windows\system32\sndvol32.exe

Any thoughts please?

Change
expand sndvol32.ex_c:\windows\system32\sndvol32.exe
to
expand sndvol32.ex_ c:\windows\system32\sndvol32.exe

Note the added space between the underscore and c:
