I get the message XLS File Format Is Not Valid when I try
to open a Microsoft Excel file on my computer even though
it opens without any problems on other computers. I have
Excel version 5.0a. Could it be a Windows XP problem? I
don't have access to the other computers anymore so I
don't know which versions they have. Does anyone have
ideas as to what the problem is? Thanks.

You installed Excel 5 on WinXp, and it works?

I would expect it to work, but it won't open XLS files from a newer version
of Excel.

Mr. Chambers: Thanks for the comment. Do you mean the
excel 5a will never be able to open xls files? Must I get
a newer version of excel to open xls? Thanks.

It probably cannot open XLS files from recent versions of Excel.
