Unable to uninstall software in Control Panel

I have Windows XP. I have tried to uninstall scanner
software and Creative Lab software from the Control
Panel. I click on Remove and nothing. I then attempted
to remove the software from the uninstall menu for each
application, once again nothing. So I just reinstalled
the software and so far everything appears to be working
fine. I always uninstall first before I reinstall. This
is the first time I've encountered this problem. I am a
little above a novice user.

What is causing this? Thanks.

Could have been a bad initial installation or some sort of corruption
afterwards. This happens to me from time to time and I just reinstall the
offending application and then uninstall it.
