View Full Version : Blue screen crashes throughout the day
BK
December 5th 03, 12:18 AM
Win XP Pro installed for 4 months now.
Getting constant blue screens and crashes. Cant pinpoint what software is
causing this. Have a Radeon 128 Rage Pro graphics card and Athlon XP 2400
processor with 512Mb memory.
At times, a restart back to XP gets back to a blue screen again, and can
take upto 2-3 more soft resets before its safe again.
Any ideas as to how I identify the problem? I tend to leave Kazaa lite
running or WinMX but have tried without either and eventually it does crash.
Also closed down ZoneAlarm as well but still experiences crashes.

Make sure your processor fan isn't slowing down and your processor isn't
getting hot.

Try updating or rolling back video card drivers. The
latest drivers for Radeon(Catalyst)resulted in numerous
lockups, freezes on my PC. Make sure you go to the
manufacturer of your card for drivers. Some Radeons
are "Powered By ATI" some "Made by ATI".

Thanks, it seems to be running ok. I think it even had a special fan
installed for 'extra' cooling :)

Is this a new system you built, or something you'd had previously and
just upgraded to XP? When I built my Athlon XP 2000 I had a very
similar problem unless I clocked back the processor speed to the point
where the system thought is was an Athlon XP 1600. Turns out the CPU
was crap. If this is a new system for you, try clocking back the CPU
and see if the crashes stop. My guess is, they will.
