Hi there,
Here's a prob I've had for some months now and have not
managed to resolve. It is a real annoyance and I'd like
to sort it out....
For some reason URLs within XP have ceased working in
most cases.
What I mean is that all of the following will not bring
up IE and access the URL in question. What happens is
that if no IE window is open then a new one will open but
the address line will be blank. If IE is already open
then nothing at all happens. Here are various senarios :
1) Clicking on GO TO HOMEPAGE (or the like) in any
application under the HELP menu (for instance) will not
access the home page.
2) Typing a URL into the Address Bar toolbar on the
windows START bar will not work as described.
3) I have a program that stores passwords etc. It has a
field for a URL and normally if you click on the button
next to that it will take you to that URL on the net
(using IE). Same prob.
4) Clicking on a URL in an email (Outlook or OE) same
prob.
5) Clicking on a URL in a PDF or WORD doc... same prob.
Basically this problem occurs throughout XP and all apps
I run on it. Kind of makes windows web integration a non-
event.
I'd dearly like to sort this out. I've search high and
low for a solution but no luck so far. I did find a KB
article that talked about a similat problem from within
WORD and I re-registered some DLL's as instructed but
that didn't help.
I think this started happening after a particular Auto
update was installed... but not entirely sure...
Thanks....
Jonathan
(Please email me any replies too... as I often seem to
lose the posts I make amoung the hundreds that get posted
each day).
