XP not connecting to NT4 domain

Please help!!!!!!!

When changing from Workgroup to Domain getting error - A
domain controller for the domain xxxx could not be
contacted.

Tried Network Id Wizard but get error - Windows cannot
find an account for computer on xxxx domain.

User has admin rights to NT4 and account is setup on
domain.

Any ideas gratefully received. It's driving me mad...

sounds like name resolution issue. do you have wins server? if not, enable
netbios over tcp/ip on xp.
