Hello

I regularly get the following message when trying to post to newsgroups:

Outlook Express could not post your message. Subject 'Re: Safe to delete
..chk and .tmp files?', Account: 'Pebshater', Server: 'news.btinternet.com',
Protocol: NNTP, Server Response: '441 From: address not in Internet syntax',
Port: 119, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 441, Error Number: 0x800CCCA9

The way I get round it is to delete the "account" in OE tools & create it
again; this cannot be right. Any ideas please.

TIA

Suggestion:
Add msnews.microsoft.com as a news account in OE. There's no additional
charge to use it. It does not require a password or SPA. The server only
carries MS newsgroups but you would still have your news.btinternet.com
account to follow any other groups that you like to read.

I'm not sure what "internet syntax" the btinternet server is complaining
about. You may want to refer this question to their tech support. Each news
server can be configured differently a little differently from another.
Example: Some require you to log on to post. Some require a log on to read
and post. Some require no logon. So maybe the errors are something on the
btinternet side. A blank you have filled in not quite right or just a server
glitch on their end of things.

Go to Tools | Accounts and double click your news.btinternet.com account.
Change the From field to something in valid email syntax like:

On the other hand, you seem to have posted this message through btinternet
without a problem and with a From field in proper syntax, so I don't know
what their problem was.

Thank you for that. It did take several attempts to post this message but
if showing my "from" address in non internet syntax has caused the problem
that is easily rectified. As I said in my post the only way to get the
message through was to delete the account & recreates it and previously my
from address was shown as "pebshater at btinternet dot com" so I may have
been causing the problem myself by trying to avoid spam.

Is the space between microsoft and .com a typo? If it's an exact copy, then
remove the space.
