Odd network problem

Host computer has USB ADSL modem and is desktop, client
is laptop with network card.

Seems that when network card is installed in the host
desktop pc it throws the internet connection so its
possible to connect, but not possible to actually view
sites etc - says server not found. At the same time, it
is still possible to have full access via the client
laptop.

When networked, its possible to see files on the host via
the client, but not vice versa.

There are no firewalls running, and host network card is
set to 192.168.0.1 and laptop is auto, did try setting it
to 192.168.0.2 but it threw the internet connection.

Help and advice would be good as this has me foxed.
