I have two network adaptors. One network adaptor is connected to the
internet while the other adaptor is connected to my small LAN. This is the
wierd part:
I disable the LAN adaptor. I reboot. I have my startup go through a
ctrl-alt-del where I then enter a name and password. If I don't hit
ctrl-alt-del and sign in within a short period (15 seconds) of time my
system reboots on an error.
If I reenable the network card I have no problem with system reboots and I
don't have to sign in immediately.
Why would windows xp have an error when not signing in while booting up fine
if the sign in is done in a short period of time?
The network card is a netgear fa-311 which is supposed to be xp compatible
and it shows no problem in the device manager.

If you want to seperate your internet access from your LAN would a router
have not been easier to utilise? Blocking IP addresses from accessing the
net? I know it doesn't specifically answer your problem but it may serve as
a solution.
