Links on Quick Launch bar to network shares not working.

Hi, if somebody would try to replicate my issue and give me the results i'd
really appreciate it.

Create a shortcut to a shared network folder (not a subfolder of a shared
folder), put shortcut on the Quick Launch bar. Resize the quick launch bar
so that the shortcut is not visible unless you click the ">>" to open the
pop-up menu. The properties of the link should be similar to
\\servername\foldername (NOT \\servername\foldername\subfoldername).

Now click on the shortcut you made in pop-up menu and let me know if it
works or if it gives you this error:

"The drive or network connect that the shortcut 'SharedFolder.LNK' refers to
is unavailable. Make sure that the disk is properly inserted or the network
resource is available, and then try again."

I get that error only when the shortcut is in the popup portion of the Quick
Launch (or any custom toolbar), the problem does not occur if I expand the
Quick Launch bar or put the shortcut on the desktop.

After testing on an XP machine that didn't have the same problem I did, I
installed 25 critical updates from the Windows Update site and it has the
same problem now. So, I've narrowed it down to 25 things I guess. Anyone
want to take a stab at this? This makes 3 of 3 XP systems with the same
problem now (till we upgrade all 500+ systems to XP)? Kinda sucks when a
patch breaks things.

I formatted and went back to Windows 2000 Pro which still works fine.
