I purchased a OEM copy of Windows XP Professional with my
computer, the disk came in an envelope that had a sticker
on it with my number to type in to install it, I put the
disk in a jewel case, and put the envelope in a file
cabinet... We moved, now for the life of me can not find
the envelope... and it will not let me re-install it
without this number... is there any way to get a new
number??? or retrieve the old one??

Follow this link to retrieve the Product Key:

Near the bottom "View Product Key XP"

If Windows XP is not installed, that will not work.
In that contact the seller since it is OEM, Microsoft can not help
with OEM.

In the future keep the Product Key with the CD or better yet, affix
the key to the computer as advised.
