View Full Version : Opening Folders
Dan

I've had WinXP installed for a little over a week when
something changed with folders handling. Whenever I
double click a folder now it opens up the Search dialog
instead of opening the folder. I have reset all folders
to their default settings, but nothing seems to work. I
don't know what I did, and this is driving me nuts! Will
someone please send me an email and help me out?
Thanks,
Dan

MVP Doug Knox has a registry fix (REG file) at his website that fixes this
problem.

registry zip, applied it, and rebooted, but still have the
same problem. I must right click on every folder and
select either open or explore to open the folder. If I
double click the folder I get the Search Dialog Box.

Dan,
Give this one from Doug a try too please. It is marked specifically as
"Fixes the problem where Search or Command Prompt opens when double clicking
a folder"
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_folder_open.htm
This fix is a VB script. If you have scripting protection turned on in your
antivirus program, it may warn you about that fact. VBS files - just like
REG files - can be opened in Notepad to view what changes the file will
make. Double click the file to apply the changes.
