If anyone has the answer to this, please help. I'm this
far from losing it entirely.

All of a sudden, I lost my high-speed internet connection
(cable). Everything would appear to be behaving normally,
but just in case I replaced my ethernet card. Still, when
I go to REPAIR under my connection, it says that I can't
renew my IP address. I've tried all the fixes mentioned
that I could find. First the ethernet card, next I went
into regedit and deleted the WINSOCK2 while uninstalling
and then reinstalling the ethernet drivers.

SOS!!!!

Well if you have deleted the Winsock2 key, it needs to be repaired

1. Backup and delete the following registry keys

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Winsock
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Winsock2

2. Reboot

3. Go to the network connections folder, right click the icon for your
network connection, and select properties.

4. Click install, choose "protocol", and click "add..."

5. Click "Have Disk...", enter "\windows\inf", click OK

6. Select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), click OK

7. When the process in complete, reboot
