I have a Windows XP box I am trying to connect to a new
domain. The machine currently logs into an NT 4.0
domain. I now want the machine to log into a Windows 2000
domain. I go to the option to change domains: I then use
my administrative ID & password. The machine sits for a
minute and then the message comes up saying " The
following error occured while trying to join $%#$%^#%^#$,
the RPC server is unavailable."

Has anyone run into this? This process did work until
recently.

Thanks!
Jeremy

Alvin,

Thank you for your help. However, this did not resolve
the problem. I am running Windows XP Pro. I performed
the operation as you suggested. However, the error still
occurred when attempting to gain access to the new domain.

Thanks,

Jeremy

Hello

Give this a try

If you are running XP pro you will be able to join the domain. Follow
these steps.
1) Right Click on "My Computer"
2) Click on the Properties
3) Click on the "Network Identification" Tab
4) Click on the Properties
and fill in the Computer Name and the Domain name. The wizard will ask
for
the Domain administrator's credentials
