Hello,

I'm having a problem sending email with Outlook Express 6
after getting new Norton anti-virus software. Does anyone
know how I can use these products together correctly? Or
is this an issue that I need to take up with Norton?

I recently downloaded and installed an update/upgrade to
my Norton anti-virus software and subscription to their
service. I can no longer send email, only receive it.

Currently I have:
Micrsoft Windows XP Home edition version 2002 service
pack 1
Micosoft Internet Explorer version 6.0
Micrsoft Outlook Express version 6.0
Norton Internet Security Version 4.0
Norton Anti Virus Version 8.07.17C

When I try to send email using either MSN hotmail or
Outlook Express, I only get the following error masseges:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection.
Possible causes for this include server problems, network
problems, or a long period of inactivity.

I found the information below in Microsoft Knowledge Base
Article - 813514. However, I do NOT want to turn e-mail
protection or script blocking OFF. I purchased and
installed the Norton Internet Security version to further
protect my computer against viruses and hackers.

What am I doing wrong? Thank you for your time,

William Patterson

Turn off email scanning. Even Norton admits that email scanning is
unnecessary, in the last paragraph here:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2001082921552806

If you leave script blocking on it will also block a lot of pictures because
they are called from scripts. Your choice.

Hi,

I had a similar problem with a customers' Outlook express. The
solution was to either remove outgoing mail checking in Norton OR
uncheck the "hang up after sending/receiving email" opyion in OE.

Hope this helps.
