I've seen 'em but I can't figure out how to get
characters that aren't on my keyboard, like fractions,
one half is not '1', '/', '2', it's just one key stroke.
Or those little apostrophre-like marks over vowels in the
spanish language, or the two little dots in the German
language. Do I need a keyboard with more keys??

Start> Run> charmap to open the Character Map.
Select a font that includes extended characters for fractions.
Use Select/Copy/Paste to transfer the symbol to your document
-or-
Click on the symbol you want. The keystrokes needed to "type" it yourself
will be displayed toward the bottom of the Character Map window. Usual
format will be "Alt+<a number sequence to be typed on numberpad>."

Hi Charles,
You dont need a new keyboard, except if you really need to have a key
instead of using it trough "ASCII" code.

ASCII Code:
ASCII is a standalized tabel with all the signs we use, including normal
characters.
If your keyboard doesnt have the signs you use you can get them using "ALT"
+ numerized value.
You can find the values in an ASCII tabel, like the ones @
www.asciitable.com, so if you need to make the ½ symbol type ALT + 171,
because the ½ symbol has the number 171.

There are several ways to do this. If your need for these is
fairly common, I recommend downloading and installing the
freeware program AllChars, which lets you get many such
characters by pressing the Ctrl key, followed by a two-character
mnemonic combination. For example, to get ñ, I press Ctrl n ~.
