Memory

I recently was recommended to upgrade to XP HE, and have
found that my speed and memory have deteriated
substantially. Is this because I'm running a Pentium 3
system. If I bring up the Task Manager, it can be viewed
for about ten seconds - then it turns off.
Any ideas?.
