I clean installed Win XP..had a bunch of problems.
Now when i boot up I get a screen that asks me if i want
to run Windows XP or Windows 98. I cannot delete win98
using the control panel/remove programs as win98 does not
show up there. i suspect i need to do some registry
cleaning up. Any suggestions where i can find info on how
to delete win 98 in this situation? Thanks

1. Click Start, right click My Computer, click Properties,
Click Advanced, and under Startup and Recovery, click the Settings button,
Click Edit, and under [Operating Systems], delete the line with Windows98.
Then at the top click File, click Save, click Exit.

2. Go to the Windows dos prompt, type CD\ and hit Enter to put you into the
Root directory.
Type DIR and hit Enter to see the list, and looking for the Windows 98
directory.
If it is listed, then at the dos prompt type:
RD /S Windows98 and hit Enter. (type the correct directory name)
(Be careful not to delete the XPwindows directory)
If Windows98 is not listed then skip this step.

Warning. A lot of programs store data in the Windows directory. Make sure
you have moved it before deleting the directory.

Do you have two drives? If so, there is a good chance that WinXP installed
itself on D: and left you with a dual boot system. Did you tell it which
drive to install on?
