Hello:

I am new to the group, and apologize if this has been asked recently.

I have been running XP for a year, and have made no major changes to
speak of. Up until a month ago, once I booted the computer, shell
extensions (the "right click" menu) was there instantly from the first
time I accessed it. In the last month, though, the first time I access
anything on the right click menu, it takes a full ten seconds for the
computer to respond. From that time on, it is there instantly until I
shut down. This implies to me (I'm no expert) that shell extensions
used to be loading on boot, but don't any more. Is there a way I can
fix this? I am comfortable with a registry hack, (with good
instuctions!) if that's what it takes. Many thanks for any responses!

Tony

Hi Tony,

It indicates that something in the shell extensions is taking a moment =
to connect. Once initialized, it's fine. I see this happen when users =
add to the "send to" section something like a remote ftp site or mapped =
drive. Check to see what has been recently added.

Thank you for the response, Rick. I heard from another Microsoft
maven that Hotfix Q 811493, which he said I really didn't need anyway,
was the likely cause, and I uninstalled that. That did the trick! In
case this info can help anyone else.

Hi Tony,
