I use AOL to connect to the internet. Currently, the
internet is unaccessable from AOL. In addition, it takes
about 5 attempts for AOL to connect with the server.
Until then it gets part way through the logon and
terminates. The modem log says "hanging up by lowering
DTR". I tried to logon to MSN but connection did the same
thing but would never fully connect. This all started
with using a MS tech to fix a problem where I could
not "see" a home network connection. The solution ended
up being to uninstall and re-install the NIC. The driver
appeared to work but was corrupt before the re-install.
But before that I was instructed to do a re-install of
XP. That caused problems since SP1 had been installed.
The internet and dial-up problems started at that point.
When AOL does finally connect I get an error message that
an earlier version of XP is installed (I assume the SP1
problem caused that). I cannot re-install SP1 because it
needs the internet connection to do that. I have removed
RasMan folders 25 and 26 in the registry (KB 329441). I
have removed the Telephony folder as well (KB 320558). I
have removed and re-installed AOL several times. Sorry
for the length of the post.
