View Full Version : Do I need XP Full version

Hi,

I have Office 2000 and want to upgrade to XP. However, I
want to trash the PC and perform a brand new install
(including format of HDD). Do I need the full version of
XP for this or will the upgrade version allow me to do
this (and just ask for the 2000 ID). The 2000 disk is
itself an upgrade version.

Thanks

Darius

Do you want to upgrade to WinXP or to OfficeXP?

Windows XP is an Operating System.

Office XP is an office suite of programs.

You can perform a "clean install" of Windows XP,
then install your Office 2000 program or Office XP program.

Assuming that your first sentence is a typo, and you mean that
you have *Windows* 2000, not Office 2000, yes, you can use the
upgrade version of Windows XP to do a clean installation. Just
insert the Windows 2000 CD as proof of ownership when prompted to
do so.

But if you meant *Office* 2000, you'll need to clarify what
you're asking.

Sorry for the confusing typo. Ken was right, I meant I have Windows 2000.

Thanks for the info.

Your assumption is correct, thank you. And it does not matter that the
Windows 2000 disk is itself an upgrade disk?

Not for the installation process. The Windows 2000 Upgrade CD will serve
as a qualifying product for installing Windows XP.

However, depending on the licensing history your Windows XP license will
then consist of at least 3 different versions of Windows and you must
retain the full set. These would be:

- Whatever version of Windows that you had when you upgraded to Windows
2000
- The Windows 2000 Upgrade License
- The Windows XP Upgrade License

Good luck
