Microsoft Word

Just bought a new pc with Home Edition and then upgraded
to xp pro in order to get, I thought, Microsoft Word
rather than having to work with Wordpad/notepad. But
neither MS word, Powerpoint, Scheduler, Access are there.
Was the upgrade incomplete? Dead in the water without MS
Word.

Windows XP Home and Professional Editions do not include Word,PowerPoint or
Excel etc.
These are products from the Microsoft Office Suite. If you require them,
then you will need to purchase the appropriate Microsoft Office Suite.

Should have bought Office XP Pro that runs on any operating system =
(Win98/NT4SP6 or later) rather than Windows XP Pro.

No, the upgrade wasn't incomplete. Neither Windows XP, nor any
previous version of Windows, has ever included these programs,
nor any other applications.

Windows is an operating system, and doesn't come with application
software (unless you want to consider WordPad application
software). If your previous computer running an older version of
Windows came with these, it wasn't that they came with Windows,
it was that your vendor chose to bundle them as part of the
package he sold you.

If you want these products you need to buy a copy of Microsoft
Office.

Neither the Microsoft Office application suite, nor any of its
individual component applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access,
Outlook, etc.), have _ever_ been "part" of any Windows operating
system. They are, and always have been, separate applications, that
must be purchased and installed separately.
