I apologize if this question has been asked before, but
this is my first visit to the group.
I'm using XP, and all my screens have that lousy Folder
Tasks menu on the left. I'd like to get rid of it
completely and free up the space on my screens. How do I
do that? Since I may not find my way back here, would
someone be so kind as to email me? Thanks!

Thanks for trying to help, but I'm not asking about Common
Tasks on the Desktop,I'm asking about the Folder Tasks
that take up so much room on the screen in (for instance)
My Music or My Pictures. I would like to close that Folder
Tasks menu, but can't figure out how to do so.

Peg,
Click on the Tools menu, select Folder Options and under the General tab,
Tasks area, mark the circle for Use Windows classic folders. Click Apply and
that will get you what I think you are asking for.
Please post back if this isn't what you are trying to do.
