XP computer freeze due to network card.

I have unplugged all the cables before opening the box to
add memory. I did not connect the broadband cable to the
network card and I started the computer. It just freezes
after windows xp comes up.
I removed the card and everything is working fine. I tried
to insert the card into the PCI slot and connect the
cable. Again the computer freezes.

Please let me know how to over come this problem.
