automatic network connection

Since a re-install of xp I have experienced two problems
1-a dial-up connection is made without any provocation.
The system engages the dial up connection by itself
2-attempts to stay connected are halted by a shutdown by
nt/authority because a RPC call terminated unexpectedley.

Any suggestions for a work around or repair

When you did that Repair Install of XP, you put your system
back to the version of XP that comes on that CD. This means
that if that XP CD does not include Service Pack 1, you no
longer have Service Pack 1. Likewise, all previous critical
updates have been removed. This means that you are now
susceptible to all of the worms currently running around the
Internet. Because you did not have the XP ICF enabled nor
had a third-party firewall installed and enabled, you now have
been infected with the msblaster worm or one of its variants.
Apparently you have not bothered to keep up with what is
going on with the Internet especially in regards to security issues
with Microsoft OS's. I am confident you will now become
more aware of the unfortunate reality that is out there.
