My computer boots fine, winxp pro loads fine, my desktop appears but then I
have a Norton Utilities screen I have to close, then another window for
another program, and then one more. I do get rid of these screens
permanently.
Thanks

most well-designed programs will allow you to stop them from starting
automatically somewhere in their options. otherwise, you can manually stop
these programs from starting up; the first place to check would be in the
"startup" folder in your "all programs" menu - just delete any shortcuts to
programs you do not wish to have start automatically. you can also access
other possible startup programs in the registry, system.ini and win.ini
files. the safest way to do this would be using the system configuration
utility. just type "msconfig" from the run prompt (start>run) to launch the
utility. you will see a "startup" tab, which will likely display the
programs you wish to disable from automatically starting on boot (logon).

Sheri,
If you simply want to the "Splash" screen to stop displaying, go to each
program's options and disable the "Splash" screen in settings. This will
allow the program to run, but not display the startup screen.
If you would rather have the programs "disabled" when starting the computer,
then go to the options settings for each program and disable from there. If
there is no option to disable on startup, visit the following site for a
list of startup locations to determine where the program(s) load and make
the proper modification(s);
