View Full Version : desktop in different user accounts on upgrade from ME

I upgraded from ME to XP Home, without problems.

My ME desktop had lots of shortcuts and files on it. All
of this came through into XP.

The ME was shared by two people. When upgrading to XP, I
therefore created two separate user accounts during the
upgrade. After the upgrade, the same ME desktop (w/all
shortcuts and files) appears in both user accounts.

Here's the question:

One of the users wants some of the existing shortcuts,
while the other user wants other of the existing
shortcuts. The problem is that, when one user deletes a
shortcut, it disappears from the desktop of the other user
as well. (Neither user is an administrator.)

I had thought each user could create a different desktop
with different shortcuts. Short of deleting all the
shortcuts and reinstalling individually, is there a
setting so that desktop shortcuts that came through on the
upgrade can be deleted by one user, but will remain on the
desktop of the other user?

Thanks.

Hi Lewis,

Move the shortcuts. They are currently here:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop

Which is shared between all users. What one does affects all of them. =
Move them into the respective profile of the user that wants them:

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Desktop
