system restore

I have had this happen to me twice now, and am wondering if anyone else has
had this problem. I have had to run system restore, the non-destructive
type, and both times, after it says it's complete, the computer reboots, and
this error message comes up-
NTFS is compressed. Hit Alt-Del..... to restart computer.
I had to order a disc from hp that was suppsoed to have fixed it- it didn't-
then had to reformat hard drive and re-install operating system.
Anyone have any ideas as to why system restore caused this to happen twice,
and how to prevent it from happening again should I have to run system
restore again ever?
And is there anyway else around that NTFS error message besides reformatting
and re-installing?
