network connection problem

I used system restore,then undid the restoration, because
a critical update I needed "can not be installed after
restoration".
Now,I have network connection problems;ie can not even
connect to Windows Updates to get updates(!)
lost my MSN connection,can't renew an antivirus product
subscription,etc;
Please,help me find a solution for this.
