In program files I have 2 entries for Intellipoint.
1) Microsoft
Intellipoint 4.0. size 7.79 MB
2) Microsoft Intellipoint 4.1 size 14.9 MB, and only 1 entry in Add/Remove
for the 4.1 do I need the 4 version and if not how do I get rid of it.
many thanks

I would uninstall both versions and then scan the Registry for
leftovers. You can do that manually or use a Registry cleaner like the
one that comes with the jv16 Power Tools
(http://www.vtoy.fi/jv16/index.php). Use this software with caution
and do not remove things from the Registry from which you are not
sure what they are.
At last reinstall IP 4.1.

Thank you for your reply. I can use the registry as long as I know where to
look and what to look for, or better still a list of instructions. I am 75
and I believe in the saying ' think twice and cut once' can you help?
Regards

I would remove the IntelliPoint software and then scan the Registry
for "IntelliPoint".

I've had mixed results with Intellipoint on XP. 4.1 installed perfectly
on my XP-Home system. On my business laptop running XP-Professional it
appears to install, but no device pictures show on the software and all
the buttons are set to 'click'. Even setting the buttons to something
sensible produces an error message about only one button being set to
'click'. Selecting the 'Connected Device' drop-down produces a rundll
error.
It's a real pain as I have much greater work requirements for
application specific button settings :-(
I wonder whether it is somehow conflicting with the inbuilt PS2 driver
on the Dell laptop (although it used to work fine under Win98).
Any suggestions?

I had the exact same problem just tonight. Look in device manager under
mice. If there are any other pointing devices listed right-click and
disable them.
