Just Upgraded to XP

just went from windows 2000 to XP home. how do you get rid of the Search
Assistant dog (I know how to change it, but like the old search window)?
also, how do you remove Messenger from starting. i use it occasionally, but
don't see it in the startup folder? thanks in advance.

1. You can get rid of the dog by clicking on Change preferences on the left
had side of the window and then clicking without an animated character.

2. Open Windows Messenger go to Tools ... Options... Preferences tab and
uncheck "Run this program when WIndows Starts"
