On an XP machine, as Administrator, when I look at Local Services, there is
a service listed called Network Authentication Service which is supposed to
be started automatically but is not running. When I try to start it
manually, it fails because it cannot find the scchost.exe file. That's
spelled correctly(scchost, not svchost). A search of the entire system
finds no such file. A search of the original CD finds no such file and a
search of the Knowledge Base finds no such file.
Does anybody know what it is and where to find it? The other XP's on my
network don't even list this particular service. The XP in question, which
is trying to find it, says that if it is not running other users on the
network may not be able to log on to this particular machine, and that is
exactly the problem we are having.
