I'm having the same problem Dana is. This doesn't work
either. When you click the box to add to taskbar, it
tells you to add the program but when you go to the
add/remove programs screen, there isn't an option to add
it.

Don't have that card however my approach would be to go to device manager
highlite the sound card and delete it. Then, reboot and plug and play should
reinstall it. If no luck I would investigate the BIOS to make sure it is
turned on. One last item, if you have speaker selection make sure it is not
set to earphones.

I have seen situations where the sndvol32.exe file is corrupted and
causes symptoms like this. Try running "sndvol32.exe" and if you get an
error, you will have to expand the file from the XP CD.
Insert the CD and open a command prompt. Run "expand
X:\i386\sndvol32.ex_ C:\Windows\system32\sndvol32.exe" where X is your
CD drive letter.

That's the other error I'm getting. Do I just use my
restore disk. XP was already installed so that's the only
one I have.

You can't use a recovery CD, you need a "retail" CD.

Depends on the recovery disk. Some work, some don't. Using Windows Explorer,
look at the contents of the disk. If you see an i386 folder in the first
group of main folders, it will work. Otherwise, look on your hardrive. Many
of the OEMs will place a copy of the i386 folder there for touchups of this
nature.
