lockups

My machine ,Compaq Presario 910us running XP Home , locks
after finding another mouse on the PS2 port . There is no
other mouse connected!!!

Have tried everything .. new drivers ,reinstall and
removeal.

Events viewer shows "The UPS service could not access the
specified Comm Port."

Any suggestions would be gerat.
