Hi,

I rencently got an older computer without the hard drive.
I had a new hard drive installed and want to install WinXP
Home. I get a splash screen showing Win 98 on booting,
then it goes to a DOS screen.
I installed the WIN XP CD in the drive then typed SETUP
after the D:\ prompt, an get the following message. "This
program can not be run in DOS mode."
How do I get from the DOS mode back to th WINDOWS screen?

Thanks,
Denni

The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary
to partition and format your drive. Follow this procedure and allow
Windows XP to partition and format your drive:

1. Open your BIOS and set your CD Drive as the first bootable device.
2. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD Drive and reboot your =
computer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete the =
existing
Windows partition, then create a new partition, then format the =
primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows XP.

5. Windows XP Clean Install:=20

Hi Dennis,

You can't use setup on the root from DOS mode, instead switch to the =
I386 directory and run winnt.exe

Pls run the upgrade advisor (on the installation CD) before trying to load
XP. If you have an "older computer" you will probably encounter some
hardware compatibility issues, and XP will not load, or load properly.
