View Full Version : Slow down and freezes since last update!

For the last ~ one and one-half weeks, I have been
experiencing a "crawl" rate to my pc's performance. I
have problems getting Picture It Publishing to engage,
print a project, or save things. My explorer can take ten
to twelve seconds to engage, though my internet speed is
still high. I frequently come to my pc to logon, and my
screen saver gives only the background picture with no
icons, and no logon prompt. Only after pushing the power
button will a prompt occur, asking if I wish to shut
down, and after replying no, I get my regular desktop
back. I told this to a friend who gave me a blurb from
Infoworld about the Q811493 hotfix. Before I delete this
update, I wondered what MS might be doing about this?
Should I wait, cause the slow down is driving me nuts!

Chuck, if you go back to the Windows Update site and read the More Info
blurb about the update -- you'll see exactly what conditions it is designed
to protect against. The described situation is not a common one for most
home setups. Since its release, it's been moved from the "Critical" section
to "Recommended." Hopefully an update for the update that does *not* cause
the performance problems will be released eventually.
I experienced the slowdown from this update as well and uninstalled it for
an immediate performance improvement.

Hi
You should remove it...
Remove it from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel instead of doing a
system restore. If you get a warning that other installs may stop working if
you remove it, just ignore it.
You May Experience Performance Issues After You Install the 811493 (MS03-013)
Package on Your Windows XP SP1-Based Computer
