What makes the scanned images in this program appear so
exaggeratedly close up when opened? And this appears to
be the "normal" view because only "larger" and custom
views in an excess of 100% are possible in the View
Option.

I typically scan and save in a jpg format, but even
bitmapped images come up so only part of the picture is
available on the screen without scrolling. (I can see the
whole image in a preview mode, however.)

It has to do with the resolution, the more pixels the larger the image. If you scan
at a lower resolution the images will be smaller. Go to www.irfanview.com and
download the free viewer, get the plug-in's too. You can resample in this program.
