all of a sudden outlook express is crashing when i click
on the sent messages folder. i think i tried to reinstall
but maybe was not successful. i did install the
patch, etc. a few weeks ago but had not had this problem
until yesterday. am new to xp so have no real idea what
could have happened. HELP!

Close OE, move the SEND ITEMS.DBX file from the Store Folder elsewhere
and see if this helps. If so, this file is corrupt and you should
delete it.
The Store Folder can be found by checking the settings in Tools >
Options > Maintenance > Store Folder.

Sent Items is probably corrupt.
Go to Tools | Options | Maintenance and see where OE is storing its files.
Close OE.
Go there with Windows Explorer and move Sent Items.dbx to an empty Windows
folder. With Win2K and WinXP it will be a hidden file.

You can use this tool to extract the messages from the old DBX file:

DBXtract (free): http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/

The messages can be dragged from a Windows folder back into an OE folder.

When you have followed Frank's advice, a tip. Do NOT use the default OE
folders for storing mail you want to keep - they are very prone to
corruption. Move the messages into folders you have created manually.
