how to determine which SP is installed (if any)

In order to use patches for Win, IE etc., one needs to
know what Service Pack is installed (if any at all), since
the patches are offered for a specific SP. How can I get
the info about the SP installed or make sure that there is
no SP installed?

From Start - Run, type winver and hit ENTER. The resulting window should
tell the SP version (in addition to other version rated infoel), if you have
installed any.
