View Full Version : three computer network unstable

Have a 3 computer network all Dell machines recently
upgraded from win98 to xp-pro. Networking is very
unstable. The message "network cable unplugged" keeps
poping up and the connection is disabled for a while. I
have gone thru the network trouble shooting and file
sharing trouble shooting. Can ping each computer by IP or
by name and file sharing checks out OK. Network is fine
for small files, but as soon as you try to access or copy
any thing of size, you get the "cable unplugged" message.
Drivers, Harware, etc. all seem in order and are
compatable with XP-Pro. Could this be a problem with the
router?

If the problem occurs on all 3 computers, there's probably something
wrong with the router.

If it only occurs on one computer, it could be the router, the
computer, or the network adapter. Try a different router port and
cable.

Try the fix shown here, even if you have a different network adapter
than the one mentioned in the article:
