Thumbnails take a long time to appear

Hi,
I have XP Pro running on a new high spec system. When I
take pictures with my digital camera and load them onto
the pc it takes a long time for them to appear when I open
the folder in "Thumbnail" view. I also have a laptop with
less memory and a smaller graphics card that opens them
almost immediately.

If you could shed some light as to where to start looking
I would be most grateful.
