Can't do Windows Update on networked computer.

We have two XP computers on a DLink 4 port router and a
cable modem. We can each access each others printers. We
can each surf the Net at the same time. The first
computer gets automatic updates from Microsoft. I can't
even do a manual update from the second computer. I get a
error message when I do a scan for updates on the
Microsoft site. Could I have a setting incorrect in the
second computer? Thanks for any help.
