I had no end of trouble with the Avance AC97 and often
when installing a program like Scrabble it will take my
drivers out. Simply open your control panel and
system\hardware\device manager\sound,video and game
controllers and then right click on your Via Avance AC and
uninstall it. Now close out and shut the machine down and
reboot and it will self install. Now go to the Via site
and download the 4 in 1 drivers and install. Now the best
program for recording voice is Qualcomm as there is no
limit to the length of your recording unlike the voice
program in XP which only allows about 30seconds of voice
