View Full Version : Connecting Two Computers "nework path not found"

Having tried to set up a direct connection via a parallel
cable and a network connection for two computers both
using a crossover link cable and separately a hub and
having followed all the Microsoft instructions for XP,
both for setting up and trouble shooting I have been
unable to get any of the computers to recognise each
other. The parallel link clearly shows as being
connected. Pinging from the Host computer seems to work
but pinging from the guest computer always fails. The
computer icons appear in my network places for the
computers in the work group but when interrogating them I
always end up with the message that the network path was
not found. I have disabled all firewalls but am at a loss
to know what I am doing wrong. I have tried using three
separate computers. I am unable to find anything further
on the Knowledge base. Can anybody help?

can the second computer that cannot ping the first one ping itself? Also
make sure you share atleast one folder on each machine (if it have nothing
to share it will not show up)

Doug,
please have a look at http://www.michna.com/kb/WxNetwork.htm.
That article refers to Ethernet connections.

Many thanks for the advice. The solution was in totally
uninstalling Zone Alarm on all computers then everything
worked like magic (since just disabling does not work).
Thanks for ending a very frustrating few days!!!

Doug,
there are ways to make Zone Alarm work with XP. I don't know the
details, but I guess you have to get the latest version and set
it up properly. But you may not need it.
