View Full Version : Files and Settings Transfer

I had to reformat my hard drive a while back so I
performed the "File and Settings Wizard" to backup all of
my documents and settings and transfered the backup file
to a different computer on my home network. I then
performed the format and reinstalled windows xp. My
problem now is that when I run the Wizard to reinstall
all of my settings and files it says that the file I
select is not the correct file. It keeps telling me to
select the folder that contains the settings and files.
I've tried doing this from the networked computer and
have also tried moving the file back to the computer I'm
trying to do the installation. I'm not really worried
about the settings as much as the files in this file. The
file is about 1.6gig and I would really like just to
extract the documents and music files. Any sugestions on
why the wizard can not find the file or ways of just
unzipping the file and extract the documents?
Thanks in advance for any help!

That wizard is really picky if you pick the file instead of the folder when
you're importing. It wants to look in the folder itself. If I remember
correctly there are two folders - the main and a sub. Try both of them.
Also, here's a link to a great article about FAST. It also includes some
links to some pertinent MS Knowledge Base articles:
