I have a Favorite which I have accessed several times over the past year.
Today I got a blank page with the message
<This homepage requires Javascript (Active Scripting)>. I recently reset
the XP IE Internet Options>Advanced Settings to Restore Defaults and now the
Microsoft VM Java console and Java logging are disabled so I guess that's
why I get the Java message. My question is : Am I putting my computer in any
sort of danger by enabling (again?) those two Java things? I sort of
remember reading nasty comments about Java being used by wackos to create
trouble programs. Thanks for any comment.

What's safe is really subjective to your own personal comfort level.

You could go ahead and enable these for the added content on some sites - at
least the virtual machine (JIT Compiler in Internet Options> Advanced>
Microsoft VM). May want to set most of the active scripting settings to
Prompt or disable. For example, I only have "script active X controls marked
safe for scripting" enabled since all of the download routes are marked to
"disable" or "prompt." In other words, the only installed controls have
already been "OK'd" by me so I let them run as needed.
