View Full Version : Network Services make system tray icons disappear

Hi there,

I have a problem with my system tray icons disappearing
at startup, which is very annoying (especially the volume
icon, sometimes MSN Messenger icon, NAV, etc.) in XP Pro.
The programs are running, but the icons don't show up.

After a lot of research on the web and trying pretty much
everything, I found some posts from other users with the
same problem and the only solution seems to be: Control
Panel/add/remove programs/windows components and then
untick the box Network Services. Apparently, UPnP causes
this problem, but as I need UPnP for my router
(Messenger, etc.) I cannot have Network Services unticked.

Questions: 1. Is Microsoft aware of this problem? and 2.
is there any way around unticking Network Services
(registry entries, etc.)?

Thanks, Marcel
