Hi Callie!
Step1) Don't panic!
Step2) Did you plug your printer into the back of the
computer using a USB connector or a parallel connector?
Don't mean to insult you here but do you know the
difference?
Step3) If you plugged in using a USB cable, the computer
should have detected the device (in your case a printer)
for you and started to install the printer driver
(software)automaticcaly for you. Prior to connecting your
printer up, thouroughly read the instructions as
Plug'nPlay devices can be finicky if you don't follow the
correct sequence.
Step4) If you remember that happening, check to see if
the printer is shown as installed by following this
Path: Click the Start button-click on Control Panel-
click on Printers and other Hardware. On the next screen
click on "View installed printers or fax printers". You
should see a drawing of a printer as well as your make
and model # listed. There should be white check mark
inside a black circle and at the bottom it should say
ready.
Step5) If no printer shows as being installed, check your
cabling and try to determine if it USB or parallel.
Parallel is a much larger connector. I would personally
recomend buying a USB cable to hook the printer up with
as it sends data much faster and the software is
installed automatically.
Step6) If you are using a parallel cable, you will have
to use the CD included with your printer to install the
software (more commonly known as a driver). Make sure all
your connections are correct, then run the installation
CD.
The installation CD should start up automaticcaly when
you insert it. Follow the on-screen instructions. The
only tricky part is correctly identifying the "Port" that
you connected the cable to. In all likely hood you will
only have one Parralel connector (Port) on the back of
you computer, so set the connection to LP01.
Step7) Once the software is installed, follow the path I
listed in step 4. Hopefully your printer will now be
listed. Hope this helps in some small way. John Porteous
