Hello NewUsers Forum:

Two issues that have come up:

1. After upgrading from Win 98 to XP I noticed that the
screen savers from the "desktop themes" (ie. jungle,
baseball, space theme etc.) in Win 98 did not get
transferred. How do I 'browse' in order to load a screen
saver file into XP?

2. When opening certain applications (WinTVGo TV-Card,
Lotus 123 spreadsheet and others...) the CPU will try and
read the A:\ floppy drive even it though it has no reason
to do this. The only way around this is to put in
a "dummy" floppy. Someone advised me to "...delete the
autoexec.bat file". How do I do this on XP and WHICH file
(s) do I delete?

Any suggestions are more than welcome. Thanks!

Hello,

The savers you want are installed on win98 in the Windows file as .scr
files.

They are on the 98 disk but I do not know how to extract them. if you have
access to a installed 98 system, copy the *.scr files to a floppy than copy
them to the system32 file on your xp system.

Thier are hundreds of excellent free savers available. Try
ScreensaversShot.com
http://screensavershot.com/

As to the second problem deleting the autoexec file probably will not fix
the problem. To find out look in the c:\ directory for a file called
Autoexec.bat. It is probably empty ( 0 Bites ) it is best left alone enpty
or not.

Look in the configuration file of the programs which are accessing the A:\
drive. Their should be an option to not check the A drive. Turn it off.
Also virus checkers will most likely check all removable media at boot
and/or at shutdown. This can be turned off the same way.

HTH
Richard
